Sangria, Orphans and other Christmas Favs

Maybe these are not the best Christmas movies ever, but they are my favorites. My Christmas wish is to leave work this afternoon, go home and watch at least five of these, but instead I will be preparing my house for Christmas Eve dinner (for something like 47 of my closest family members and some people I don't really know).

I will be making a delicious sangria (that I can't drink), because every Christmas Eve needs a little sangria.

10. Home Alone. Ah, Macaulay Culkin at his finest. Before the awkward teen years. Before getting married (while still in the awkward teen years). Before we knew that to be that famous when you're 10, probably means that your dad is a huge money-hungry abusive douche.

I love watching this movie with my nephew. Seeing his excitement reminds me what it was like to see it for the first time. And since I grew up in the house he now lives in, I can totally relate to the desire to find yourself home alone for a week.

9. A Smoky Mountain Christmas.

Dolly Parton + Orphans = The Perfect Christmas Story.

Growing up, my cousins really couldn't watch TV, but they had about a million "mom approved" movies on VHS. I don't know for sure, but I'm betting that this was one of them.

8. A Christmas Story. Duh.

You know how this is played non-stop for 24 hours on TBS and you wonder, who's the guy that watches this over and over and over? Um, that would be MY DAD.

Someone please buy this for my baby.

7. Miracle on 34th Street (90s Version).

I'm not really sure if this is a great movie, but there was a time when I had a huge girl crush on Elizabeth Perkins. It can't be explained.

6. Plains, Trains & Automobiles.
Technically, this is a Thanksgiving movie, not Christmas. However, it's the first time I ever heard the The F Word said with such... enthusiasm, so it will always hold a special place in my heart during this time of year.

5. Love Actually. This movie will make even the most cynical among us love Love... and maybe even love the Holidays. If I had to choose between this movie and About A Boy, I honestly don't know what I'd do. It's like Sophie's Choice.

4, 3, 2. Christmas Vacation, Scrooged and Bad Santa. Because they are Husband's favorites.

And my NUMBER ONE favorite Christmas movie...

1. Elf. Like Home Alone, I love watching this with my nephew. It's actually a year-round movie in my house. We watch it almost every time he spends the night.

Okay you cotton-headed ninny-muggins, what's your favorite Christmas/Holiday movie??

Excellent list! I fucking love Planes, Trains, and Automobiles! And I am also one of those people that will watch A Christmas Story ALL DAY LONG. When I was 14 my family went on aki trip over Christmas and every time we came back to the condo to take a break we'd watch it. So we probably saw the whole thing in bits throughout the day. That movie rules.

I'm with you for Love Actually. I looove watching that movie. I don't really have any other Christmas favourites because watching movies at Christmas was never really something that my family did.

I hope that you and your husband have a very Merry Christmas! :)

I'm missing your blog lately cause I've been arguing with idiots (pardon the pun, Glen Beck) on my blog.
Anyway, I hope everything is going well for you. Elf is my FAVORITE. I love Steve Martin, too. Also - have you seen Best in Show? You'd probably like the humor.
