Brain Atrophy

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 1:53 PM Right now I'm supposed to be doing Husband's English assignments for him (well, technically, since it's 2pm, I'm supposed to be working, but anyway...). He's half-way through getting his degree and somehow talked me into doing... uh, I mean helping with his English class. I guess he thought it would be easy for me, since I was an ENGLISH MAJOR and all.
Really, what are English majors good for other than doing their husband's homework?
A community college English class... how hard can it be? Apparently hard, at least the getting started part. I've read the syllabus, and that's about it.
I was once a brilliantly smart college student with a 4.0 gpa. My mom always said that because I didn't have a job there was no reason to not have a 4.0. Whatever, it meant that I was smart!
But that was 10 years ago. Since then, I got a job. I got dumb. My brain is now something that closely resembles Jake Sully's legs on Avatar. All skinny and pale from lack of use. Slightly disturbing. Completely wasted.
It's going to be a long semester.
This is all just to say please forgive me if I'm around here even less for the next few weeks. However, I'm an excellent procrastinator, so who knows, I may be around even more!
P.S. Thank you for all the great advice regarding the last post. I really really appreciate it all! Right now I'm trying to just not think about everything too much. That's working out okay, except for about once a day when I realize HOLY CRAP! I'M GOING TO HAVE A BABY!!
It's unbelievable and amazing at the same time.

You are so cute in an adorable psychotic way. Happy non-English class!
That's so funny because my husband did the same thing. I read two entire novels for him and outlined the papers.
I love you even more now that I know you were an English major and are a procrastinator like me!
Pregnancy makes you dumb, too. And then when the baby comes out you really get dumb. It's true.
I had to comment on this one. I SO understand this. ALL the men I've been with have had me do their english papers for them. Both ex's and my beloved Mr. Valentine. Because I know my way around a research paper. But I actually HATE writing when it's for an assignment. Can't stand it. Mr. V's mom even asked me to write a paper for his younger sister once. It's hard to be in that position. It's like you understand it, so you offer to do it because you love your husband but it's also a pain in the butt and comes with deadlines and revisions, etc. And you hope the husband actually reads it and doesn't just turn it in site unseen so that when the teacher asks him specific questions he'll know what to say. Anyway, I totally feel ya on this one. =)
